At 4:00 p.m. on February 16, Riyadh time, Xu Jinghe, deputy director of the State Drug Administration, was successfully elected as the chairman of the 27th GHWP.
What is GHWP?
GHWP is an international medical device regulation and technology exchange platform with the participation of regulatory authorities and industry representatives. Its predecessor is the Asian Medical Device Regulation Coordination Committee (AHWP). It was officially renamed GHWP in 2022. With the increasing number of members and the continuous improvement of its international influence, its membership has expanded from Asia to the Middle East, North and South America and Africa, covering 33 countries and regions, involving more than half of the world's population.
How did Xu got elected?
From February 13 to 16, the 26th annual meeting and technical committee meeting of GHWP was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The meeting included open forums such as regulatory trust, digital therapy, innovative medical devices, regulatory capacity building, and the GHWP technical committee meeting and the GHWP annual meeting. Representatives from GHWP member countries and regions, GHWP Technical Committee and relevant working groups, capacity building project experts and international coordination organizations such as IMDRF, ASEAN and APEC shared the latest progress of global medical device supervision. One of the main tasks of this annual meeting of GHWP is to elect a new term of GHWP leadership. According to the constitution of GHWP, Xu Jinghe, the deputy director of the State Food and Drug Administration, was elected as the new chairman of GHWP after the vote of the delegates.
The successful election of the new chairman of GHWP marks that China's systematic and complete medical device regulatory system and effective regulatory work have been widely and highly recognized by international peers. Xu Jinghe delivered an election speech. He said that over the years, every step of GHWP has written its own history of rapid growth, and its work has been fruitful and influential. This annual meeting adopted the 2026 strategic framework and planned the development goals of GHWP from 2023 to 2026. I will work with all members of GHWP to continue to promote the coordination of global medical device regulatory regulations and promote the common improvement of regulatory capacity among members.
What Xu will do in his term?
Xu Jinghe said that during his term of office, he will focus on the following six aspects:
First, focus on the forefront of science and technology, and accelerate the coordination and unification of regulatory rules.
Second, accelerate the promotion of regulatory scientific research and promote the early listing of innovative products.
Third, strengthen regulation training and accelerate the improvement of the regulatory capacity and level of member countries and regions.
Fourth, promote regulatory trust and accelerate the realization of regulatory mutual recognition among member countries and regions.
Fifth, promote the application of technical guidance and promote the sustainability of regulatory capacity.
Sixth, strengthen industrial cooperation and accelerate the growth of trade among member countries and regions.
